Community Terms

Last Updated: April 25, 2025

Welcome to the AppFolio Community Terms of Service (the "Community Terms").

Thank you for choosing to participate in the AppFolio Community (the "Community"). The Community is a place for discussions and knowledge sharing, tips, best practices, recommendations, product suggestions, and other materials related to the AppFolio Property Manager product.

By participating in the Community, you agree to these Community Terms, the AppFolio Privacy Policy, and the AppFolio Community Content Policies (the "Content Policies").

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and AppFolio, so please read them carefully. If you do not agree to the Community Terms, please do not use the Community. Some of the terms, such as "AppFolio Property Manager" and "Services" used in these Community Terms are defined in the AppFolio Property Manager Terms of Service. Nothing in these Community Terms or the Content Policy shall modify the rights or obligations set forth in the Terms of Service, regarding your Subscription.

1. Your Access to the Community.

In order to use the Community, you must have access to an AppFolio Property Manager database. By choosing to participate in the Community, you state that:

  • You can form a binding contract with AppFolio
  • You are not barred from using AppFolio’s Services under all applicable laws; and
  • You are not currently temporarily suspended or removed from the Community or AppFolio’s Services; or
  • You have not been permanently suspended or removed from the Community or AppFolio’s Services

If you are accepting these Community Terms on behalf of another legal entity, including a business or government entity, you represent that you have full legal authority to bind such entity to these Community Terms.

It is strictly prohibited to include any information in your profile that suggests you are an AppFolio employee or moderator, or to otherwise pose as such an employee or moderator when using the Community.

2. No Official Support.

Information, advice, or other material of any kind posted on the Community (the "Content") is not official support provided by AppFolio. For official support, please reach out to AppFolio’s Customer Care team. You acknowledge that opinions expressed in Content on the Community are those of contributors of such Content only and does not reflect the opinions or policies of AppFolio, its affiliates, or group companies.

3. Your Participation in the Community.

You are responsible for all Content that you post in the Community. AppFolio does not control and assumes no responsibility for such Content or any Content posted by other users. By submitting Content to the Community, you represent and warrant that you have all rights, power, and authority necessary to grant the rights to said Content contained within these Community Terms. Because you alone are responsible for the Content that you post in the Community, you may expose yourself to liability if you post or share Content without all necessary rights.

Any ideas, suggestions, and feedback about AppFolio or our Services that you provide to us are entirely voluntary, and you agree that AppFolio may use such ideas, suggestions, and feedback without compensation or obligation to you.

Except and solely to the extent such a restriction is permissible under applicable law, you may not, without our written agreement:

  • License, sell, transfer, assign, distribute, host, or otherwise commercially exploit the Services or Content;
  • Modify, prepare derivative works of, disassemble, decompile, or reverse engineer any part of the Services or Content; or
  • Access the Services or Content in order to build a similar or competitive website, product, or service

4. Community Participation.

The integrity and safety of our Community and our users means a lot to us. In order to keep the Community as efficient and helpful as possible, we expect you to observe our Content Policies. In addition to the Content Policies, you may not do any of the following:

  • Use the Community in any manner that could interfere with, disable, disrupt, overburden, or otherwise impair the Community;
  • Gain access to (or attempt to gain access to) another user’s account or any non-public portions of the Community, including the computer systems or networks connected to or used together with the Community;
  • Upload, transmit, or distribute to or through the Community any viruses, worms, malicious code, or other software intended to interfere with the Community, including its security-related features;
  • Use the Community to violate applicable law or infringe any person’s or entity's intellectual property rights or any other proprietary rights;
  • Access, search, or collect data from the Community by any means (automated or otherwise) except as permitted in these Community Terms or in a separate agreement with AppFolio (we conditionally grant permission to crawl the Community, but scraping the Community without AppFolio’s prior consent is prohibited); or
  • Use the Community in any manner that we reasonably believe to be an abuse of or fraud on AppFolio or any payment system.

We encourage you to report Content or conduct that you believe violates these Community Terms or the Content Policy. Inappropriate Content or activity may be reported by clicking the horizontal ellipsis () in the bottom right corner of the post and then selecting "Report" from the dropdown menu.

5. Professional Connections

The Professional Connections community group provided by AppFolio is solely intended to provide a space for users to request and provide assistance with other users. AppFolio takes no responsibility for the posts, responses, or any hiring opportunities (collectively “Job Communications”) that may come from user participation. AppFolio does not vet, verify, or take any position on any Job Communications and does not assume any responsibility for wages, benefits, safety, working conditions, or any other aspect of employment.

6. Trading Hands

The Trading Hands community group provided by AppFolio is solely intended to provide a space for users to connect and discuss property-related ventures. AppFolio takes no responsibility for the posts, responses, or community activities (collectively “Venture Communications”) that may come from them. AppFolio does not vet, verify, or take any position on any Venture Communications and does not assume any responsibility for any purchases, sales, partnerships, trades, deals, agreements, property ownership arrangements, or any other ventures.

7. Moderation.

AppFolio reserves the right to moderate the activity on the Community and may remove or edit any Content for any or no reason, including, but not limited to, Content that, in AppFolio's sole discretion, violates these Community Terms or AppFolio’s Content Policies. AppFolio may remove or edit such Content without prior notification to the responsible user.

Use of the Community in conflict with any of the Community Terms or Content Policies may result in immediate termination or suspension of your accounts (see the Term and Termination section below).

8. Privacy.

AppFolio respects your privacy. Please consult our Privacy Policy for more information on how we collect, use, and share your personal information for our own purposes (but note that our Privacy Policy is not a part of these Community Terms and may be changed from time to time). By agreeing to these Community Terms, you acknowledge and consent to the collection, use, sharing, and disclosure of your personal information and data as described in our Privacy Policy, as may be modified from time to time.

9. Security.

You are solely responsible for the information associated with your account and anything that happens related to your account. You must maintain the security of your account and immediately notify AppFolio if you discover or suspect that someone has accessed your account without your permission. We recommend that you use a strong password that is used only with your account and enable two-factor authentication (2FA).

You will not license, sell, or transfer your account without AppFolio’s prior written approval.

10. Reward Program.

The Community features a reward system whereby AppFolio, in its sole discretion, may reward users based on their overall contribution to the Community. You acknowledge that AppFolio's decision in respect of any reward shall be final and binding. AppFolio may change or remove the reward system at its discretion from time to time.

11. Limited License.

You grant the AppFolio a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, make available to the public, publish, translate, create derivative works from and distribute any Content or feedback that you post on or otherwise provide through the Community and to exercise all copyright and publicity rights with respect to such Content or feedback, without any attribution to you.

12. Term and Termination.

These Community Terms will become effective in relation to you when you begin use of AppFolio’s Services and will remain in effect until you terminate your AppFolio Services or the earlier termination by AppFolio thereof.

Without limiting its other rights to terminate access to the Community, AppFolio reserves the right to terminate or suspend your Community access at any time if, in AppFolio's sole discretion, you are in contravention of any of the Community Terms. If AppFolio terminates or suspends your Community access for any reason whatsoever, AppFolio or other companies of AppFolio Inc., shall have no liability or responsibility to you. Please note that if your Community access is terminated by you or AppFolio for any reason, Content that you have posted may be kept in the Community in an anonymized form.

13. No Warranty.

The use of the Community is at your own risk. The Community is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent possible under applicable law, AppFolio gives no warranty, express or implied, as to the quality, content, and availability or fitness for a specific purpose of the Community. In addition, AppFolio does not warrant, endorse, guarantee, or assume responsibility for any Content posted on the Community or any hyperlinked website. As with any information or advice obtained through any medium or in any environment, you should use your judgment and exercise caution where appropriate. No advice or information whether oral or in writing obtained by you from AppFolio or any other company of AppFolio, Inc. shall create any warranty on behalf of AppFolio in this regard.

14. Limitation of Liability.

IN NO EVENT SHALL APPFOLIO, ITS GROUP COMPANIES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, LICENSORS OF APPFOLIO, OR ANY THIRD PARTIES BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY LOSS OF DATA, SERVICE INTERRUPTION, COMPUTER FAILURE OR PECUNIARY LOSS) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE COMMUNITY, EVEN IF YOU HAVE ADVISED APPFOLIO ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSS, AND INCLUDING ANY DAMAGES RESULTING THEREFROM. YOUR ONLY RIGHT WITH RESPECT TO ANY PROBLEMS OR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE COMMUNITY IS TO STOP USING THE COMMUNITY.

BECAUSE SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU, IN WHICH CASE OUR LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

15. Indemnity.

You agree to indemnify and hold AppFolio, AppFolio, Inc. and its officers, directors, employees, and licensors harmless from any claim or demand (including but not limited to reasonable legal fees) made by a third party due to or arising out of or related to your violation of these Community Terms or the Content Policies, or your violation of any laws, regulations or third party rights.

16. Intellectual Property.

AppFolio respects intellectual property rights, and expects you to do the same. Please note therefore that the Community is the property of AppFolio, its group companies or its licensors, and is protected by intellectual property rights (including but not limited to copyright), and that you do not have a right to use the Community in any manner not covered by these Community Terms.

17. Technology Limitations and Modifications.

We are always improving our Community. This means we may add or remove features, products, or functionalities; we will try to notify you beforehand, but that won’t always be possible. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Community (in whole or in part) at any time, with or without notice to you. Any future release, update, or other addition to functionality of the Community will be subject to these Community Terms, which may be updated from time to time.

AppFolio will make reasonable efforts to keep the Community operational. However, certain technical difficulties or maintenance may, from time to time, result in temporary interruptions.

You agree that we will not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Services or any part thereof.

18. Applicable Law.

These Community Terms and Content Policies and any dispute arising out of or relating to them and/or Community will be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. All disputes arising out of or related to these Community Terms and/or Content Policies shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the California state courts located in Santa Barbara, California and federal courts of the Central District of California (unless we both agree to some other location). We each hereby expressly consent to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of such courts.

19. Modification.

AppFolio may change the Community Terms or Content Policies at any time, at its sole discretion. If we do, the revised Community Terms and/or Content Policies will supersede prior versions. Unless we say otherwise, changes will be effective upon the “Last Updated” date located at the top of this page. We agree that changes cannot be retroactive. We will provide you advance notice of any material changes to these Community Terms and/or Content Policies, including those pertaining to the addition of a new service. For any other changes, we will publish the revised Community Terms and/or Content Policies and update the “Last Updated” date above. Your continued use of the Community after we modify these Community Terms constitutes your acceptance of any revisions. Any material changes will be communicated to you and your acceptance of and/or continued use of the Community after such notification of change will constitute your acceptance of such changes. Please do not use the Community if you do not agree to the new Community Terms or Content Policies.

20. Miscellaneous.

In the event that the Community Terms or Content Policies are translated into other languages and there is a discrepancy between the two language versions, the English language version shall prevail.

Either party’s failure to enforce any right or provision under these Community Terms will not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Except as expressly set forth in these Community Terms, the exercise by either party of any of its remedies under these Community Terms are in addition to (and not exclusive of) any other remedies permitted at law or in equity.

If any provision of these Community Terms is deemed invalid, then that provision will be limited or eliminated by the court to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions of these Community Terms will remain in full force and effect.

AppFolio may assign its rights and obligations in connection to these Community Terms and Content Policies without restrictions. You may not assign your rights or obligations in connection to the Community, the Community Terms or Content Policies, or your AppFolio database, or any part thereof, to any third party.
